Natur am Byth is Wales’ flagship Green Recovery programme bringing together nine environmental charities and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to deliver the country's largest natural heritage and outreach programme.
Following a three-year incubation and funded development phase the partners launched the £8m 4-year delivery phase in September 2023. We have a Vision is to save Wales' most threatened species and inspire the people of Wales to reconnect with nature and boost their wellbeing. The programme wouldn’t be possible without the support of players of the National Lottery after successfully receiving a £4.1million delivery phase grant in summer 2023. The partners also received essential cash support from Welsh Government, the Landfill Disposal Tax Community Scheme (LDTCS) administered by Wales Council for Voluntary Action, NRW, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, the Arts Council of Wales and other generous donors.
We require independent evaluation from a consultancy, academic research team or specialist organisation – suppliers must have experience of monitoring impacts both for people and for natural heritage. This may require the preferred supplier to subcontract certain skills to their team, or the supplier will already have the range of skills inhouse to evaluate a complex programme delivering outcomes for communities, threatened species and organisational resilience.
The intension is for the supplier to work with the partnership for the duration of the funded delivery phase to ensure ongoing reflection on programme impact and methods, culminating in an end of programme evaluation report in summer 2027.
Natur am Byth provides an opportunity to identify new and innovative methods of measuring outcomes for people, communities, and threatened species, with the potential to influence the approach to species recovery and nature connection in Wales and the UK at large. This work may appeal to research teams, heritage specialists, NGOs specialising in environment and outreach, or consultants with a deep understanding of measuring impact.
NRW is the lead partner in Natur am Byth and will be the contract lead for the independent evaluator. The partnership is governed by a programme board representing each of the nine environmental charities and NRW.
NRW is the principal environmental adviser to Welsh government, the environmental regulator for Wales, and Wales’ Statutory Nature Conservation Body. We act as the Category 1 responder to environmental incidents within Wales and as the land manager for the Welsh Government Woodland Estate and Wales’ National Nature Reserves.
